This is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India. Locally revered as Matabari, this temple is situated on a small hill. Legend says that when Lord Vishnu dissembled Lady Sati’s human body, herright foot fell on this spot. The temple itself was constructed 500 years ago, in the early 15th century by Maharaj Dhanya Manikya Devji. Tripura Sundari is none other than Goddess Kali. During the festival of Diwali, a huge fair takes place on the hill, where devotees from all over the country come to seek blessings and enjoy it. The inner shrine resembles the shape of a tortoise’s hump. Animal sacrifice was a celebrated practice here.

2. Bijoy Sagar Lake

One of the most famous and biggest lakes in Udaipur, this lake is 750 meters long. Bijoy Sagar lake is also known as Mahadeb Dighi. The lake serves the citizens for washing clothes, bathing, and fishing and also for dumping waste. This is the sole reason that is the water quality is deteriorating and hence, the lake is not clean anymore. The surrounding premise of the lake has become densely populated over the years. The lake can be visited during any time of the year.

3. Tepania Eco Park

Spread over an area of 155 hectares, this ecology park was built in the year 1995. It is located 5 Kms from Udaipur. The gorgeous tree house inside is a hit among children and adults alike. The famous Orchidarium houses around 200 varieties of orchids. The Cactus House next door has 250 variants.  Other than these, different flowers, trees, reptiles, monkeys and even birds can be seen around the forest reserve. The main charm is that it is built inside the Radha Kishorepur Reserve Sanctuary. Tepania Eco Park is a lovely way to spend a day out in a relaxing environment.

4. Nazrul Granthaghar

Nazrul Granthaghar is the national library of Udaipur. It is named after the revered Bengali poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam. The national poet of Bangladesh, he is also an acclaimed writer, musician and a revolutionary figure. He was the figurine standing up to social injustice and political revolutions. The library was built during the reign on Manikya royal family in the year 1954. Kazi Nazrul’s majority work is stored here. Apart from that, thousands of books fiction as well as nonfiction can be read here. Students, scholars and any person wanting to gain the knowledge of pre-independence and royal realm of India can visit here. As of date, around 75,000 books are present in this huge library.

5. Neer Mahal

Built in the year 1938, Neer Mahal is situated in the middle of Lake Rudrasagar. It was constructed by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore. This lake palace was used as a summer residence for the royal family. With 24 rooms, two wings and two grand staircases, the grandeur of this place resembles traces of both Hindu and Mughal architecture. The Martin and Burns Company were assigned the task of constructing this 5.3 sq. Kms mansion. Tourists can access the place in the same way the royals did, by taking a boat ride across the lake.

Udaipur has a lot of artificial lakes, bestowing it with the name ‘Lake City’. It is also a religious site and one of the most profitable tourist destinations of Tripura. The importance of this town started building when it was the capital of Tripura during old times, making it a must visit place when you visit Tripura.

It showcases architectural displays of landmarks and important sites of the state in a miniature form. Flora, fauna, medicinal herbs and fruit bearing trees adorn the surrounding premises. It also has a wide amphitheatre, a fossil fountain, bamboo huts, rock garden, waterfalls and artificial lakes as well as a natural grown forest area. An entire day goes away when you enjoy each attraction to its fullest.

3. Unakoti

The word Unakoti means ‘one less than a crore’ in Bengali. It is a celebrated religious site among Shiva worshippers, as there are huge sculptures of his embedded in the stony hills here. They date back to the 7h century. The way it is built in its might and grandeur is breath taking and mesmerizing. Apart from Shiva, figures of Vishnu, Ganesh, Nandi, Narsimha, Hanuman and many other Goddesses can also be seen. Many deities still remain unidentified. The Sita Kund nearby is visited by tourists too. A grand festival takes place here during Shivratri, Makar Sankranti, and the Ashokasthami Mela. Local myth believes that it was the legendary sculptor Kallu Kumar who carved these figures when Lord Shiva instructed him to do so, in a dream.

4. Raima Valley

Raima is popularly known as the mother of Tripuri tribes. The Raima river flows below. It is a lush green area, vast in size and serene to look at. The area is covered and surrounded with trees and shrubs. The empty space helped commission the Gumti Hydel Project. It is an ideal picnic spot and a must visit place.

5. Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary

Despite being a little smaller in size, Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary is a frequented tourist destination. It covers up to 86 hectares of land and stands adjacent to the national highway, making it easily accessible to interested tourists. Khasi tribal communities were hailed as original care takers here. It is one of the few remaining natural habitats of the state. It is rich in spice plants, medicinal plants, flora, and different fruit growing trees, botanical shrubs, fodders and even age old trees with sprawling roots. It is used by botanists, ecologists and environmentalists to conduct research and different studies. More than 120 species of wild animals and birds can be spotted, residing in their natural habitat. The best time to visit is during the winter months, as it is comparatively pleasant and cool.

48 islands adorn this lake covering almost 41 sq kms. of water surface. The rivers Raima and Sarma drain into this lake and this lake is also the source of the mighty river Gomati called Tirthmukha. The water supply of river Gomati is controlled by a Hydel Dam. On 14th of January annually, the Makr Sankranti Mela takes place here. Bird watching is the most famous activity here, as the trees and forests around the lake provide a natural habitat for migrated and local bird species. It also serves as an amazing picnic spot. Water sports are also offered for adventure seeking tourists.  The lake gets its name from the shape of Lord Shiva’s instrument, Dambru.

3. Amar Sagar Lake and Fatik Sagar Lake

This artificial lake was built in the 16th century, by King Amar Manikya Dev Burman, during the reign of the Tripuri royal family. The lake is as vast as 20 hectares. The southern bank houses the temple dedicated to Goddess Mangal Chandi. The lake provides a great view and an incredible point of rest for a picnic. There are various places to eat and sit around the premises of the lake.

Fatik Sagar Lake is yet another lake of historical importance in Amarpur, which creates an ideal one day picnic spot.

4. Mangal Chandi Temple

Along the southern banks of Amar Sagar Lake, lies the temple of Goddess Mangal Chandi. She is the most revered eight headed deity. This temple was constructed during the 15th century by King Amar Manikya Dev Burman. The architecture boosts of both Hindu and Buddhist religious beliefs. Apart from the main Goddess, figurines of other deities are also present in the temple. A fair takes place during the festival of Basant Panchami in the month of February, on the banks of the river every year, where hundreds of devotees’ flock to take place in the celebrations and religious rituals.

Jampui hill range is situated 1000 meters above sea level and stretch along the state of Mizoram. The highest peak is Peak Thaidawr. Among the 10 small villages here, the Mizo community is the most populated. Agriculture and horticulture are the main bread winners here. Mizo people have been residing here ever since the 15th century. The most awaited Orange and Tourism festival was celebrated here to promote the excellent quality of the orange plantations. The elevated points here give a beautiful view of the sun rising and setting.

There is a Chinese Room that tourists usually flock to due to its intricate artistry done by Chinese craftsmen. The museum is adorned with a collection of artifacts depicting the culture, tradition, art, and history of Northeast India.

Embellished with beautiful stone carvings of Lord Shiva, the Unakoti hill is a must-visit spot for a tourist in Tripura. The elaborate carvings on a variety of rocks across the hill are found amid an atmosphere of lush green trees, shrubs, and waterfalls. The most prominent feature of this hill is the 30ft tall head of Lord Shiva, also known as the Unakoteswara Kal Bhairava. In the month of April, an annual festival known as the Ashokashtami Mela is held, which attracts a large amount of devotees every year. The rock carvings and stone designs are now under the protection of the Archeological Survey of India.

3. Sipahijola Wildlife Sanctuary

With an artificial lake, botanical and zoological gardens, the Sipahijola Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 25kms from the city center in Agartala. It is well-known for the Clouded Leopard area, and there are various birds, animals, and vegetation found here. Among the various flora and fauna, animals and birds, one can find the famous crab-consuming mongoose. Best time to visit is during winter when many birds and animals are easily seen. You can stay in the forest Bungalow called Absarika. It consists of a few cabins that can be used overnight.
